A small retreat in the Giant mountains
Stretching along the Czech Republic’s northern border with Poland, the Giant Mountains – or Krkonoše in Czech – form the highest range in the country. Dominated by Mount Sněžka, the so-called “Czech Matterhorn” which rises to 1,603 metres above sea level, the region is part of a national park renowned for its long history and unspoiled landscapes. Designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, it is one of Europe’s most ecologically valuable areas. With towering peaks, broad ridges, lush meadows and dense forests, the region also offers a wide range of year-round outdoor activities including skiing, hiking and cycling. Combined with its breathtaking natural scenery, this has made it a highly popular holiday destination.
Strategically located in the village of Vítkovice, the newly developed Aldrov Resort and Apartments serves as the perfect base for a relaxing retreat immersed in nature.
Developed by Crescon, a Czech group specialising in residential and commercial real estate investments, the resort is envisioned as a small, self-sufficient village at the heart of the mountains and close to the Aldrov ski area. The development consists of 12 interconnected yet independent buildings that share a consistent architectural language. Clad in wooden planks, with large pitched roofs and dormer windows finished in corrugated sheet metal, the structures reinterpret the vernacular architecture of Vítkovice in a contemporary style, carefully balancing scale and organisation.
Eight of the buildings house 139 fully furnished apartments in a variety of layouts from studios to four-room units and in sizes ranging from 37 to 119 square metres. The complex also offers underground parking and dedicated storage spaces for seasonal equipment. The remaining four buildings accommodate high-end hospitality services, including a reception area with concierge, a wellness centre with a swimming pool, herbal sauna and tepidarium, as well as amenities such as an artisan bakery, a pub and a restaurant with an adjoining wine bar. The phased construction of the resort began in 2018 with the first buildings and was completed in 2023.
The elegant interiors blend harmoniously with the mountain landscape of woodlands, greenery and stone, while the selected materials strike a balance between tradition and modernity, with textures and colours inspired by nature. Italian manufacturer Florim supplied porcelain slabs from the Onyx&More collection in the sophisticated colours Golden Porphyry and White Porphyry for the resort’s common areas such as the front desk, staircases, bathrooms and the entire wellness area, where their elegant tones and unique textures create an inviting yet refined atmosphere. In the apartment bedrooms, Florim’s Natural Stone collection was selected to create a soothing ambience in harmony with the surrounding landscape. The natural stone finishes echo the colours and forms of the region, reinforcing the connection between the interiors and the breathtaking outdoor scenery.
