“Could you want anything more? Nobody knows that it’s all here,” wrote Cesare Pavese about his native Langhe region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its vineyards, ancient villages and hilltop castles. Borgo Roggeri, a country house located in the village of La Morra in the province of Cuneo, embodies this sentiment. In 2021, owner Paola Roggeri decided to convert a disused barn into a charming resort complete with a garden and jacuzzi. This peaceful retreat invites guests to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of these hills with their vineyards and hazelnut groves. “I quit my job to throw myself body and soul into this new adventure, overseeing every aspect of the renovation. People are always talking about stepping out of our comfort zone, but it’s never easy. It takes a great deal of determination and willpower to overcome all our fears and challenges. But the joy of fulfilling the dream I had as a child as I ran through the vineyards around the barn is priceless,” she says, passionately discussing her beloved Langhe region.
The conversion, which created two first-floor suites and two ground-floor studio apartments, drew inspiration from the natural surroundings. As part of her commitment to sustainability, Roggeri sought to preserve the character of the original building while giving free rein to her passion for hospitality.
The renovation preserved the building’s structural and architectural essence while embracing eco-friendly practices and local traditions. Externally, it maintained the original bricks and roof tiles, adding a modern touch with the choice of large Corten steel-framed windows in place of the simple openings in the walls of the former barn. Photovoltaic panels were installed in a ruby red colour echoing the shades of local wines to blend in harmoniously with the surrounding agricultural landscape while achieving environmentally sustainable energy production.
The interiors are dominated by wood, sourced either from reclaimed or low-grade timber in pale, brushed finishes to ensure maximum brightness. This material is used for the trussed roof, echoing the barn’s original structure, for the windows and doors and for the furniture finishes, with attention to detail and a preference for warm dove-grey colours.
The atmosphere is a harmonious blend of elegance and simplicity, further enhanced by the warm, welcoming effect of the porcelain stoneware flooring chosen for both the suites and studio apartments. Blustyle’s Green Wood collection, chosen in the Bay colour version, offers a natural wood look with a Natural finish, capturing the authentic and original essence of timber while delivering exceptional technical and functional performance. Borgo Roggeri offers its guests a wide range of unique experiences. “We live in a place suspended in time, so preserving the Langhe region and its landscape is a fundamental aspect of our work,” says Paola Roggeri.
