Rebirth and sustainability
Rebirth and sustainability are the two words that best describe the Sabaudia Hotel & Spa, a four-star establishment offering views of the forests of the Circeo National Park and located close to the town centre and beach of Sabaudia, a town in the south of Italy’s Lazio region. But why rebirth? Because despite being opened in the summer of 2021, the Sabaudia Hotel & Spa is housed in a structure that started out as a hotel and business venture in the late 1980s and early 1990s and was later abandoned. It was resurrected by entrepreneur Marco Lamonica, who purchased the property in 2016 and embarked on a lengthy and laborious renovation project that included adapting it to the needs of today’s hospitality industry. This was the origin of the Sabaudia Hotel & Spa, “an accommodation facility with a modern, cosy and technological style, but without technology being intrusive”, explains Marco Lamonica, the hotel’s sole administrator. “Our top priority is our customers and the quality of their accommodation and experience in the area.” But above all, the structure has focused on sustainability, as evidenced by the fact that its energy classification has been upgraded from G to A4, the highest level possible for an eco-friendly building. A wide range of environmental solutions have been adopted, continues Marco Lamonica, “including 50 kWh of photovoltaic panels, the use of reclaimed water, a significant reduction in plastic waste (for example by installing soap dispensers instead of providing individual disposable sachets), a beach shuttle service organised with the goal of reducing car use by guests, advanced automation systems to optimise space and energy management, and high energy efficiency of the hotel as a whole, particularly machinery, equipment and all internal and external lighting fixtures.” In short, it is an entirely different building to the one that was completed back in the 1990s. It is modern and sophisticated, owing largely to the choice of materials, including several types of Italian-made porcelain stoneware, particularly Cercom Ceramiche’s collections MB3 – inspired by a selection of quartzite stones – and To Be, the result of cross-cutting research into marble and concrete. The Reggio nell’Emilia collection from Cir Manifatture Ceramiche was chosen for the exterior paving. All these products combine creativity, technology and eco-sustainability, an aspect that is not only regarded as essential for achieving a harmonious balance between productivity and well-being but also reflects the philosophy of Sabaudia Hotel & Spa.
