Mapei recognised as a Sustainability Leader again in 2023
Mapei’s commitment to building a sustainable future has once again won it recognition as a Sustainability Leader 2023, the list of the 240 most sustainable Italian companies drawn up by Statista, a leading market research company specialising in rankings and company data analysis, in collaboration with Il Sole 24 Ore.
The study analysed numerous Italian companies on the basis of their published sustainability reports and financial statements. The analysis is based on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and takes account of three aspects: environmental, social and economic.
Through research and innovation, Mapei continually studies advanced solutions to reduce environmental impact and promote a culture of high-quality, long-lasting buildings. “For this and other reasons, a Corporate Environmental Sustainability Team devoted entirely to the environmental sustainability of products and processes was set up in 2015,” says Mikaela Decio, Corporate Environmental Sustainability Manager at Mapei. “We have always sought to measure and reduce the environmental impacts of products throughout their life cycle by means of LCA analyses, the results of which are verified, reported and published in certified documents called Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). This year, the launch of the Mapei Zero Line has enabled us to make an even greater contribution to sustainable building.”
The Zero line consists of a range of fourteen products with zero impact on climate change and represents the latest step along the road to sustainability that Mapei has been travelling for years. CO2 emissions measured over the products’ entire lifecycle have been offset for 2023 by the purchase of certified carbon credits to support renewable energy and forest conservation projects.
Mapei is also carrying out other sustainability projects with great commitment and excellent results, including a recent initiative entitled “Make the difference, one bag after another”. The project, promoted by Mapei in cooperation with Consorzio REC (Recupero Edilizia Circolare), Cartiere SACI, Comieco, Assografici and Gipsac (Italian Paper Sack Manufacturers’ Group), aims to incentivise the collection of empty paper bags and sacks following use of building materials. These are then taken to a recycling plant to produce recycled paper, which in turn is used to produce bags containing other products as part of a true circular economy process. The project aims exclusively to increase the quantity of recycled materials and is not limited to Mapei bags but applies to all packaging that can be recycled in paper streams.
