Florim publishes its 16th Sustainability Report

Florim has published the 16th edition of its Sustainability Report, a document that clearly sets out the group’s economic, social and environmental results achieved in 2023 and presents its goals for the near future.

“The past year will be remembered for the outbreak of yet another armed conflict and ongoing geopolitical instability, both of which have had adverse effects on the economy. In this context, despite a general contraction in volumes compared to 2022, Florim has continued to look to the future with optimism, buoyed by the outstanding results achieved in recent years. In particular, it has continued the investment plan initiated in 2022,” commented Chairman Claudio Lucchese in the letter to stakeholders. “We invested more than €270 million over the two-year period 2022-2023 in both the Italian and American branches, mainly aimed at plant renewal.”

The economic results for 2023 reveal a consolidated revenue of €467 million and investments totalling €121 million, amounting to more than €270 million across the two-year period as a whole. This represents a significant improvement compared to the previous period and is in line with the plant renewal plan initiated in 2022, which focuses on innovation, emissions reduction and improving product quality.

In terms of the environment, a large new rainwater collection tank (350m × 6.2m) was constructed at the Mordano plant. Together with existing facilities, the company was able to recover and reuse about 7 million litres of rainwater in 2023.

FLORIM continues to focus on clean energy production and now boasts a total of 127,000 square metres of photovoltaic panels with a capacity of 12.3 MWp. The Group has measured the CO2 emissions avoided through the use of self-produced energy since the first panels became operational in 2012 and since it began purchasing certified renewable energy in 2021. The result is a total of 152,845 tons of CO2 avoided over the 12-year period (23,457 tons in 2023 alone). The Carbon Neutral surfaces project, launched by the company in 2023, is another significant environmental initiative.

The group is actively continuing its social responsibility efforts with a focus on employees and the local community, supported by the contribution of the Ing. Giovanni Lucchese Foundation. In 2023, after 10 years of intense activity at the Health and Training Centre, a new agreement was signed with the Sassuolo Hospital aimed at training medical and paramedical staff and providing Florim employees with access to healthcare services. The same chapter in the Sustainability Report describes the Group’s flood relief projects in the Romagna region and support for Avis (Italian blood donors’ association) and the Italian Red Cross, as well as numerous corporate welfare activities.

The impact report drafted by the company annually as a Benefit Corporation sets out its goals for the future, including renewal of B Corp certification and a reduction in electricity consumption.
