The importance of tile laying: in day-to-day work and at Cersaie

One of the major new features of this year’s 40th anniversary edition of the International Exhibition of Ceramic Tile and Bathroom Furnishings will be the presence of a special exhibition area where six young Italian and non-Italian tile layers will take on the challenge of creating a series of decorative ceramic surfaces.

A successfully tiled surface is a result of a combination of factors: high-quality materials, a well-designed layout, a meticulous study of the installation area and a perfectly executed tile installation. For this reason, the traditional concept of a tiled surface has shifted towards a more modern idea of a complete “flooring system” in which every aspect is important, just as all the instruments in an orchestra must play together in harmony to perform a perfect symphony.

Rather than focusing on the overall aesthetics of the finished installation, the most important aspect today is the awareness that installing Italian ceramic tiles requires knowledge, professionalism and above all training. Given the many different applications of these products – interiors and exteriors, horizontal and vertical surfaces, private and public spaces – and the enormous range of sizes and thicknesses available, it is essential to have the knowledge, skill and expertise required to create surfaces that stand out for their harmonious design, perfect flatness and squareness, and excellent usability.

Promoting these concepts is one of the key missions of Assoposa, the Association of Italian ceramic tile layers and retailers which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. For this purpose, it organises fact-finding meetings, liaises with building schools, draws up protocols and training courses for the certification of tile layers, participates in national and international forums and organises Tiling Town at Cersaie.

The aim of this three-day installation showcase is to promote awareness of tile laying techniques and an appreciation of the added value that skill, knowledge and creativity can bring to ceramic surfaces. A focus on young professionals and their training is essential for maintaining the high installation quality that is a hallmark and a source of pride for Italian ceramic tiles worldwide.
