The Italian ceramic tile industry has long been working to reducing its atmospheric emissions in accordance with the goals of the European Green Deal.
The European Climate Act has set emissions reduction targets of at least 55% by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.
Only by reaching the goal of zero emissions worldwide by that date will it be possible to keep global warming within 1.5°C.
The Italian ceramic tile producers have come a long way towards achieving these targets.
In the 2000s, the industry reduced its total CO2 emissions and energy consumption by around 50%.
The gradual replacement of natural gas with biogas, hydrogen and electricity will mark a further step in the energy transition.
A number of factories in the Emilia-Romagna region’s ceramic tile cluster have already installed hydrogen-ready plants and will begin using hydrogen in the production process as soon as it becomes available.
