Mario Cucinella presents the “Ideal City” at Cersaie
World Expositions are major international events that showcase the achievements and innovations of nations all over the world. Held every five years, they provide a platform where countries can exhibit their cultural, technological, scientific and economic advancements to a global audience. They also play an important role in terms of education and public awareness thanks to the presence of tens of millions of people from all over the world. They have been held regularly ever since the first edition was staged in London’s Hyde Park under the then brand new steel and glass dome of the Crystal Palace, a type of construction that still remains extraordinarily relevant today.
Italy will be taking part in the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, entitled “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, with the Italian Pavilion designed by Mario Cucinella. For the first time ever, the Italian Pavilion will also host the Holy See, which will have its own space for organising cultural events and important art exhibitions in collaboration with the Vatican’s Department for Evangelisation. Mario Vattani, Commissioner General for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka, and architect Mario Cucinella have chosen Cersaie as the occasion for the official world presentation of the Italian participation at this extraordinarily important event. The presentation will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday 28 September in the Palazzo dei Congressi in Bologna. It will be introduced and moderated by the editor of Sistema Interni, Gilda Bojardi, and will see the participation of Confindustria Ceramica Chairman Giovanni Savorani and Vice Chairman Emilio Mussini.
“Designing the Italian Pavilion for World Expo 2025 in Osaka is a unique opportunity to build a platform for showcasing our country’s culture, history and innovations to a global audience, but also to create a place where we can build connections for future collaborations and strengthen cultural, social and economic ties and exchanges,” said architect Mario Cucinella.
“In keeping with the theme of Saving Lives and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, the aim of the project and the resulting compositional, technological and material choices is to find a new balance between humans, nature and technology and to create a powerful new tool for promoting, inspiring action and generating new synergies for the development of a more sustainable future. The Pavilion represents a new idea of society and city as a living organism in which the relationships between humans, art, environment and history can be expressed in material form.”
The presence of the leading representatives of the Italian ceramic industry as speakers at the presentation at Cersaie is no coincidence, as Italian ceramic is one of the most popular materials for constructing urban building envelopes. Thanks to its exceptional resistance to weathering and its enormous range of sizes and surface designs, ceramic tile produced in Italy is the ideal solution for building the cities of the future. At the same time, it is an extraordinarily sustainable material that is already successfully used in public and private interiors and exteriors, in residential applications and in urban design.
