An innovative production process
Sanitaryware companies based in the Civita Castellana cluster and elsewhere in Italy have introduced innovative systems to recover the heat generated in production processes and transfer it to other production stages. This is particularly advantageous in the case of tunnel kilns, which operate 24/7 and therefore have hot air flows constantly available.
Heat recovery
Recovered heat is conveyed by means of ducts to other stages of the production process. This reduces gas consumption, avoids energy wastage and improves the sustainability of the entire process.
Reuse of heat from dryers
The recovered heat can be fed either to the dryers or to the casting room heating systems.
Since 2015, many Italian ceramic sanitaryware producers have also been reusing hot air from dryers for space heating and for sanitary water heating systems. This has enabled them to make further energy and cost savings and reduce their environmental footprint.
Increasingly sustainable production processes
Heat recovery from kilns and dryers combined with the use of photovoltaic systems by many companies has resulted in average CO2 savings of around 10,000 kg/year per company.
The ceramic sanitaryware producers based in Civita Castellana are global leaders in terms of their commitment to safeguarding the planet and using renewable energy. Adopting solutions of this kind has enabled them to further improve their production efficiency and sustainability.
