Designing architectural space with a conscious and innovative approach

(March 2025) | THE PLAN Café, the Press Café organised by THE PLAN during Cersaie, maintained its longstanding focus on architecture and design. At the 2024 edition of the most important international exhibition of ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings, the café hosted a thought-provoking discussion entitled “The materials of architecture: designing architectural space with a conscious and innovative approach”. Nicola Leonardi, co-founder and editor of THE PLAN, interviewed Marialisa Santi, co-founder of Cristofori Santi Architetti Associati and chair of the Fondazione Ordine degli Architetti di Milano, Roberto Busselli, co-founder of Busselli + Scherer, and Alessandro Lazzari, founder of 3endy Studio.

The conversation underscored the importance of making thoughtful and responsible material choices that balance environmental impact and reuse potential with the opportunities offered by an experimental approach based on innovative materials.

Material selection is a collaborative process that requires ongoing dialogue with clients. It is equally essential to engage directly with material manufacturers to gain a comprehensive understanding of circularity and sustainability.
