The Italian ceramic industry is focusing on rail logistics.
24% of raw materials and finished products are transported to and from the Sassuolo ceramic district by rail.
This is more than double the national average (11%).
The figure is aligned with the European Union’s goal of reducing road transport by 30% by 2030.
Over medium to long distances, trains have a lower environmental impact than heavy goods vehicles because they emit smaller quantities of CO2 per kg of transported freight.
Rail transport also allows risk to be diversified. Resources can be planned carefully and trains are not subject to slowdowns due to border closures or traffic.
