Custom spaces for all-round comfort
(July 2024) | Consumers are increasingly eager to customise their living spaces and transform their bathrooms into fully-fledged oases of comfort. In response, producer companies are further expanding their research efforts as part of a comprehensive vision spanning multiple aspects of design and production. This includes developing technologies for the production of increasingly high-performance ceramics products and exploring shapes that adapt to even the smallest spaces and cater to the most eccentric tastes.
Curved shapes, inspired by nature
Sanitaryware producers are exploiting their expertise in ceramic craftsmanship to create washbasins, WCs and bidets with gently curved lines and perfect geometric shapes such as circles and ellipses, as well as soft profiles and thicknesses. The pursuit of these sophisticated and organic design forms in the sanitaryware industry is driven above all by the growing desire on the part of consumers to reconnect with nature. As well as influencing colour palettes, this has fuelled a trend in which ceramic mimics the graceful contours of essential, almost primal natural elements. Examples include rounded WCs and bidets that echo the soothing, spherical form of a water droplet, or asymmetric, slender and elongated washbasins that emulate the surface of a leaf.
Minimalist lines for small spaces
One of the biggest challenges facing contemporary designers is how to create functional and comfortable environments within limited spaces. For minimalist design to be truly effective, it not only needs to provide practical solutions for small areas but requires meticulous attention to every detail. This includes aspects such as thicknesses, the dimensions of vanity tops and shelves and the placement of accessories, given that every detail can make a real difference. Modular collections excel in these situations and provide the flexibility needed to create the most suitable composition in any given space. Designs that optimise the under-basin area are also particularly valuable in small bathrooms and provide extensive storage space, which can be lightened visually through the use of slender supports or wall-hung installations.
Large and functional vanity tops
The latest innovations in the world of bathroom design include numerous options that revolve around the vanity area adjacent to or surrounding the basin. These include designs that integrate the vanity top directly into the basin’s structure, as well as variations in height and form to tailor the setup not only to the available space but also to accommodate users’ different habits and preferences. Here too, the approach extends beyond mere spatial and volumetric considerations and includes the adoption of advanced technologies and materials that facilitate the seamless integration of different elements without compromising aesthetics or comfort.
