Located in the heart of the Fidenza Village shopping outlet, the Koi Sushi restaurant stands out for its refined, timeless aesthetic, blending the allure of oriental culture with the vibrant atmosphere of a contemporary commercial space. More than just an interior design project, the venue balances technical and functional needs while offering a unique emotional experience through form and colour.

Guests are welcomed into an elegant and relaxing environment that evokes the serenity of a Japanese garden while maintaining a modern, inviting identity. “Our goal was to create a venue that would be both sophisticated and contemporary,” explain architects Sonia Valente & PizzutiArchitettura. “A comfortable space suspended in time, it evokes the rarefied tones of oriental culture while remaining in harmony with the vibrant character of a shopping outlet.” Colour plays a pivotal role in the design, with a palette of natural tones, including muted green and beige, balanced by bold coral accents that animate the space. Bathed in white and enriched by natural light streaming through large windows, these colours create an airy, luminous atmosphere that invites relaxation while maintaining a visual vibrancy that draws the eye.

An iconic design feature is the wallpaper that dominates the main hall, depicting a tranquil natural scene in which koi carp – the restaurant’s symbol – swim gracefully. More than just an aesthetic element, it pays tribute to the koi’s significance in Japanese culture, where it represents strength, perseverance and beauty. The choice of Kintsugi Series porcelain stoneware from Ceramica Fioranese for the flooring further enhances the ambience. “Its distinctive texture lends a dynamic yet elegant touch, transforming the floor into both an architectural element and a striking graphic detail.” Inspired by the ancient Japanese art of kintsugi, which involves repairing ceramics with gold, this collection adds an artistic dimension that bridges tradition and modernity, restraint and audacity.

This design language extends into the restaurant’s bathrooms, where the Kintsugi Series reappears as decorative porcelain stoneware wall tiles, ensuring aesthetic consistency and offering guests a harmonious, immersive experience. More than just a restaurant, Koi Sushi is a space that invites contemplation, celebrates design and transports visitors to a world suspended between East and West, tradition and modernity.
