Located on the first floor of the Allianz office tower, one of the most iconic skyscrapers in Milan’s CityLife district, the new DaV restaurant presents an informal take on fine dining, with a focus on exceptional raw ingredients and a discreetly luxurious service. The restaurant is part of the Michelin-starred Da Vittorio portfolio, which also includes locations in Portofino, St. Moritz and Shanghai. The interior design was entrusted to architect Andrea Maffei, founder of Andrea Maffei Architects.
The restaurant seats around 60 indoor covers and over 90 guests on the terrace overlooking the square. This urban venue stands at the heart of a masterplan featuring three towers designed by internationally acclaimed architects Daniel Libeskind, Zaha Hadid and Arata Isozaki, the latter of whom collaborated with Maffei on the Allianz Tower itself.
The interior layout designed by Andrea Maffei is conceived as a fluid, uninterrupted space extending from the entrance through the bar area and into the main dining room, which opens out onto the terrace. “Restaurants in skyscrapers seek to evoke the energy of major global cities like New York, Tokyo or Shanghai,” explains Maffei. “This floor was originally an office space with an outdoor terrace, now transformed to welcome younger, more metropolitan diners than Da Vittorio’s usual clientele.”
The entry corridor is tiled with Pietra Piasentina Grigio slabs from Laminam’s In-Side collection, used here both as flooring throughout the restaurant and as a wall covering in the main dining space. The 1200×3000 mm format in the Laminam 5+ thickness creates a strong visual impact.
The project is defined by two key materials: stone-effect porcelain and warm-toned wood panelling, which not only brings a sense of movement to the walls but also conceals the technical rooms and bathrooms. The wood panels are decorated with rotating pyramidal elements, evoking a sense of fractal geometry.
The large-format slabs inspired by sedimentary stone were customised without veining for the approach to the main dining room, where the large open space with the central welcome counter is clad in Pietra Piasentina Grigio with its signature white veining and Fiammato finish.
Countertops and wall coverings are a natural application for Laminam porcelain stoneware, which in this collection has a surface pattern that extends throughout the body of the slab, creating an effect of extreme elegance. The same Pietra Piasentina Grigio Fiammato is used in the bar area, extending all the way to the backsplash.
By contrast, the private spaces of the kitchen and bathrooms feature the Nero Greco marble effect from the I Naturali collection.
Here, the continuous pattern of the large-format surfaces (again 1000×3000 mm in the Laminam 5 thickness) is interrupted by a subtle web of veining, further enhanced by the glossy finish to create a delicate, sophisticated effect.
